Spring Break 2010

This year's Spring break has been so strange. The weather for one, rain and more clouds and then a big winter snow storm! Needless to say any outside events had to be postponed until the end of the week.
In past years I usually take this time to teach my kids the fine points of Spring cleaning. They haven't enjoyed the past few years funny enough....strange I know! So this year I promised we wouldn't spring clean, but that we would plan to do some activities locally, you know like a staycation. Here is what we came up with.

On Monday we went to IKEA, I know I know a lot of you say we go there all the time but we really don't. The last time was last Spring break and besides I have my kids convinced it is like a trip to Disney Land! What ever you do don't tell em any different! That night the kids made a birthday cake for their Grandma with their cousin Jayson. They had a blast decorating it with the decorating kit Shayleigh bought at IKEA. They then delivered the cake and spent the night at her house.

Tuesday was a fun day for Xander, we finally got his best friend Nick Whipple over to play, and luckily just before they were leaving for California! I begged them to let Nick stay with us---seriously how easy would that make my life! Shay and Josie spent the entire day with Jayson at Grandma's playing games, watching movies and eating snacks!

Wednesday was a lazy day and we lounged all day and then we went and got a late lunch with our mailer coupons from Arctic Circle. I know! I'm such a bargain shopper and funny enough my kids don't understand the joy in a good bargain!

Thursday was shopping with Grandma and then she took us to lunch at Red Robin. Yummy! We are so blessed to have her so close and involved in our life.
Xander and I finally finished the book "How to Train your Dragon" and he was promised when we finished the book, that we would go and see the movie. We met David at the show and we thoroughly enjoyed it! I think it is a must see! The story and characters kept you captivated and on the edge of your seat. There were a few jumpy parts where I think the 3D version would send it over the edge, but I don't love 3D movies or their prices. So that was not an option. We will definitely watch it again!

Friday I wasn't sure what we had planned. My older girls had been begging to go swimming at the aquatic center, which turned out to be a great day to go. Later that afternoon we took the girls and the boy to the pool, then baby to Grandma's. And went for a quick bite at" Pei Wei" and breezed thru Costco to pick up some groceries. I'm calling it a date, after a fun week with the kids I was alone with the Hubs and it was so nice!
They had a great time at the pool, and of course Josie and Xander did not want to leave! Those two are fish!! They could swim 24/7 seriously!

I know we have a few more days of the Spring break, but I think it will just be recovering and mentally preparing to get back to real life ya know. I DO think they have had a fun staycation, I know I did! Goal accomplished!
